Peterson, President of the Health System and Executive Vice President of Johns Hopkins Medicine, will discuss the progress that has been made with HopkinsLocal, the initiative developed by Johns Hopkins to promote its commitment to build, hire and buy locally.
WHAT: Leaders of Johns Hopkins will make brief remarks and be available to answer reporters’ questions via teleconference about the status of HopkinsLocal since its launch in late 2015.
WHEN: Thursday, March 9, 9 to 9:30 a.m. EST.
WHERE: Dial-in 1-888-651-5908; Participant Code 6718063
DETAILS: The one-year HopkinsLocal progress report released today, shows that the university and health system hired 304 individuals from Baltimore’s distressed neighborhoods and campus-area communities and spent $55.5 million on construction projects with minority- and women-owned or disadvantaged businesses.
In the same period, Johns Hopkins increased by nearly $5 million its purchase of Baltimore-based goods and services in specific categories.
HopkinsLocal was designed to guide Johns Hopkins as it seeks to hire more city residents and increase the amount of business it gives to Baltimore-based construction and design firms, as well as minority- and women-owned and disadvantaged companies.
