What: The sixth annual Johns Hopkins in Action day of service.

Details: Johns Hopkins alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends are volunteering at 13 sites in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., on Saturday, May 5.

Why: Now in its sixth year, Johns Hopkins in Action is an annual day of service that unites members of the Johns Hopkins community with organizations in Baltimore and Washington to help tackle challenges and deliver an immediate, positive impact.

Where: Media are invited to visit the following sites where Johns Hopkins in Action volunteers will be working alongside community partners:

UA House at Fayette, operated by Living Classrooms 1100 East Fayette St., Baltimore, Md. 21202. With the support of and in partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies, Bike New York, Under Armour, Bikemore and Living Classrooms, volunteers will build 100 bicycles and distribute them to the children who participate in Living Classrooms’ community programming. Participating at this site for Johns Hopkins will be the university’s Bloomberg Distinguished Professors, undergraduate Bloomberg Scholars, Bloomberg BNA, Bloomberg News and Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses participants. 12:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m., 90 volunteers. Moveable Feast 901 North Milton Ave., 1st floor, Baltimore, Md. 21205. Moveable Feast provides nutritious food and other services to preserve quality of life for people with HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening conditions. Volunteers will help prepare meals for individuals served by Moveable Feast. 12 noon-3 p.m., 15 volunteers. On-site contact: lead volunteer Krystle Ongaco (860-984-5513).

Capital Area Food Bank 4900 Puerto Rico Ave. N.E., Washington, D.C. 20017. The Capital Area Food Bank is the largest organization in the Washington metropolitan area working to solve hunger and its companion problems: chronic undernutrition, heart disease, and obesity. This volunteer project will involve packing and/or sorting donated food. 1 p.m.-4 p.m., 45 volunteers. On-site contact: lead volunteer Margaret Baird (434-996-9333).
