A Johns Hopkins University theoretical physicist has been awarded a Simons Fellowship in Physics, which provides scholars with the opportunity to spend a year away from classroom and administrative duties in order to pursue research interests. Mark Robbins, a professor in the Henry A. Rowland Department of Physics and Astronomy at the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences at The Johns Hopkins University, is among 27 theoretical physicists to receive this highly competitive, honorific fellowship.

An “Invisibility Cloak” Not As Far-Fetched As It Seems, Lecturer Says

A British theoretical physicist doing groundbreaking work in developing “invisibility materials” (a la Harry Potter’s famous invisibility cloak) will deliver the inaugural Robert Resnick Lecture at The Johns Hopkins University at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23. Sir John Pendry of Imperial College London will present “Invisible Cloaks and a Perfect Lens,” in Schafler Auditorium in the Bloomberg Center for Physics and Astronomy on the Homewood campus.
