WHEN: Thursday, May 22, from 8:40 a.m. to approximately noon

WHERE: Johns Hopkins University’s Homewood campus, Homewood Field, 3400 N. Charles St., Baltimore, Md. 21218

WHAT:  About 1,500 students will claim their degrees at the commencement ceremony for all of Johns Hopkins University’s divisions and campuses. Susan Wojcicki, CEO of YouTube, will be the featured speaker.

The ceremony will take place, rain or shine. There will be a press section on the playing surface of Homewood Field. ***Reporters, particularly television, MUST contact the university press office if they intend to cover the ceremony. The ceremony will feature remarks from President Ronald J. Daniels, the conferring of all degrees, and the bestowing of honorary degrees. This year’s honorary degree recipients are Edith Windsor, whose lawsuit against the U.S. government led the Supreme Court to declare that 1996 Defense of Marriage Act violated the Constitution; Roberta Kaplan, the lawyer who took on Edith Windsor’s case in 2009 pro bono and won; Taylor Branch, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian whose trilogy, America in the King Years, helped to foster a national dialogue on civil rights; Susan Wojcicki, Google’s 16th employee and now the CEO of YouTube; Norman R. Augustine, former CEO and chairman of Lockheed Martin and a trustee emeritus of Johns Hopkins; Pamela Flaherty, former chair of the Johns Hopkins board of trustees, current president and CEO of Citi Foundation; and Fred Lazarus, president of the Maryland College Institute of Art.

About the Graduating Class (as of May 2)

The total number of earned degrees, certificates and diplomas awarded for the 2013-2014 academic year is expected to be about 7,084. That includes 1,704 undergraduate degrees (1,251 from the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and the Whiting School of Engineering) and 5,380 graduate degrees from across the university: 1,145 from the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences; 1,276 from the Whiting School of Engineering; 644 from the Carey Business School; 490 from the School of Education; 150 from the Peabody Institute; 101 from the School of Nursing; 427 from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS); 279 from the School of Medicine; and 868 from the Bloomberg School of Public Health.
