Due to the ongoing outbreak of the novel coronavirus COVID-19, Johns Hopkins University is transitioning to remote instruction for all classroom-based academic programs. To facilitate this transition, we are canceling the next several days of classes. We also are strongly encouraging undergraduate students not to return to campus from spring break next week and to plan to remain home through at least April 12.

Remote undergraduate instruction will begin Monday, March 23. With the exception of clinical and laboratory-based programs or the equivalent, graduate instruction will also move course delivery to a remote format as quickly as possible.

At this time, we have members of our university community who are in the process of being tested for COVID-19 – including several students – and we are awaiting results. University officials will continue to closely monitor the situation.

Other than these changes, the university remains fully open. Faculty and staff are expected to be report to work as usual, and all standard telecommuting policies apply. University services, including dining and library services, will be available. However, we are canceling tours, admissions events and alumni events, and strongly discouraging any non-essential events or meetings involving 25 or more people.

We continue to rely on the research and advice of Johns Hopkins experts in public health, medicine, infectious disease and emergency preparedness as well the guidance of federal, state, and local health authorities to make informed decisions about our response to this fluid and rapidly evolving situation.

We do not make these changes lightly. Our highest priority remains the safety of our students, faculty, staff, patients, and neighbors. We share a deep sense of obligation to take all the steps necessary to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
