Johns Hopkins University Commencement, Thursday, May 24

Samuel J. Palmisano, chairman of the board of IBM and chair of IBM’s executive committee, will return this spring to his alma mater as the featured speaker at this year’s university-wide commencement ceremony for graduates from all divisions and campuses of The Johns Hopkins University. The event will take place, rain or shine, from 8:40 a.m. to approximately noon on Thursday, May 24, on Homewood Field.

IBM’s Sam Palmisano to speak at Johns Hopkins University’s Commencement Ceremony

Sam Palmisano, chairman of the board of IBM and chair of IBM’s executive committee, will return this spring to his alma mater, the Johns Hopkins University, as the featured speaker at the university-wide commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 24. A former university trustee, Palmisano will also receive an honorary degree of doctor of humane letters during the ceremony, which is for graduates from all divisions and campuses.

Johns Hopkins University will close its 135th academic year with a spirited university-wide Commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 26, when all degrees will be officially conferred upon the class of 2011. The day begins promptly at 8:40 a.m., rain or shine when thousands of students from the university’s nine academic divisions will march onto Homewood Field.

Speakers include Fareed Zakaria of TIME Magazine and CNN, Joshua Sharfstein of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, singer Marni Nixon, and Sesame Workshop president and CEO Gary Knell.

Special commencement held for athletes headed to college world series, tennis championship

Fourteen Johns Hopkins University student-athletes, 13 baseball players and one member of the men’s tennis team, received their diplomas Tuesday, May 25 in a special commencement ceremony.

President Ronald J. Daniels presented the graduates their diplomas in the Hodson Hall board of trustees meeting room on the Homewood Campus.

The Johns Hopkins University has scheduled a special graduation ceremony for 12 seniors on the Blue Jay baseball team and one on the men’s tennis team. Tuesday, May 25, 5:30 p.m., board of trustees meeting room, Hodson Hall, Homewood campus.

Michael R. Bloomberg, mayor of New York City and a Johns Hopkins alumnus and former chair of the board of trustees, will be this year’s speaker at a single ceremony for graduates from all divisions and campuses of The Johns Hopkins University.
