WHAT: The Johns Hopkins University, Lockheed Martin and Barclay Elementary/Middle School will come together for an evening designed to showcase the science and engineering projects that students have been working on in the classroom all year.

On Monday, the university’s Whiting School of Engineering announced a partnership with Lockheed Martin aimed at enhancing STEM opportunities for Baltimore City public school students. Through the partnership, Lockheed Martin is contributing financial and staff support and technical expertise to the Whiting School’s Center for Educational Outreach.

WHEN: 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 19.

WHERE: Barclay Elementary/Middle School, 2900 Barclay St., Baltimore, Md. 21218

BACKGROUND: During the Barclay Science and Engineering Expo, students in PreK through 8th grade will participate in 10 hands-on activities organized by the Whiting School of Engineering’s Clark Scholars, undergraduate students who are dedicated to using engineering to improve communities. Lockheed Martin is underwriting the expo and company employees will be on hand as volunteers. The event will kick off with students presenting their STEM projects and conclude with an engineering challenge: Families worked together at home to develop  ways to protect an egg from a free-fall drop and will test their products at the expo.

Members of the media are invited to attend. For more information, contact Tracey Reeves at 443-986-4053 or Lisa Ercolano at 443-845-3148.
